Synopsis
A portrait of Rockets Redglare, the morbidly obese fixture of New York's underground until his death in 2001. Rockets was the sometimes bodyguard/drug dealer of Sid Vicious and Jean Michel Basquiat, as well as a talented stand-up comic and character actor who left his indelible mark wherever he went. This film chronicles Rockets' last days, hunting for methadone in Puerto Rico and telling stories from his past.

A stickler could complain that Luis Fernandez de la Reguera’s 2002 documentary about his late friend, actor and comedian Michael Morra, never gets around to explaining how he picked up the moniker Rockets Redglare. In fact, the intimacy of this portrait may be a disadvantage: Jim Jarmusch, Steve Buscemi, Willem Dafoe, Matt Dillon, Alex Rockwell, Nick Zedd, and Julian Schnabel are among those interviewed, and it seems like practically everyone loved this guy despite (if not because of) his excessive ways. Then again, lack of balance seems so central to his life and character that an inside view is probably the most appropriate one. A heroin addict from birth, born to a teenage junkie mother, Morra grew up surrounded by…

Janky and lo-fi look at one of nyc's punk and no-wave era scene people. Rockets redglare might have sold the drugs that killed sid vicious and he might've done allot of stuff since most his stories sound made up but then (partly) get confirmed by other people that aren't the character rocket is. It just is kind of a honest yet sad at times look at what is pretty much the definition of a hustler who just had allot of his friends/people around him get famous during the limelight of his life. Rockets is as irritating and interesting as you imagine him being and never stops doing his sthick while his real personality sometimes shines through.

The legendary Rockets Redglare. Before I knew who he was I would always say, “That’s the taxi driver from Desperately Seeking Suzanne” whenever I saw him in a movie. But when a buddy of mine lent me Stranger than Paradise I recognized Rockets as one of the card players, and really liked his brief performance. I did some research and watched as many movies featuring Rockets as I could, learning about his storied and chaotic life in New York. So after years and years of trying to watch this documentary and having no luck acquiring a copy, I did and it was worth the wait. So what about the doc? It’s great. You get to learn a lot about the…
